Out of Hours Biomedical Scientist - UK

We are looking for a Biomedical Scientist able to provide a comprehensive and appropriate Out of Hours diagnostic service to users through the performance and interpretation of semi-automated and fully automated laboratory investigations for Blood Sciences Laboratory services.

The post holder is responsible for ensuring proper organisation and functioning of the Blood Transfusion and Manual Haematology work areas, directing staff and ensuring that the correct procedures are performed.

RESPONSIBILITIES include authorisation and release of Blood Transfusion and Haematology results, supervision of work and performance monitoring, and where appropriate training and development of Biomedical Scientist and support staff required for the delivery of a fit for purpose clinical technical service.

The post holder is also responsible for assisting with the day to day operation of the Blood Sciences Laboratory automation.

To maintain at all times the required high standards and quality and an up to date knowledge of Haematology and Blood Sciences Laboratory Services theory and current working practices including technical problem solving of analytical equipment


QUALIFICATIONS (if you will be selected & hired, the employer will pay for the UK certifications)
- BSc Hons Biomedical Sciences or equivalent
- State Registration as Biomedical Scientist (Haematology and/or Transfusion Science) with Health & Care Professions Council (HCPC)
- MSc Biomedical Science (or equivalent) or track record of effective performance at BMS Band 6/7 level


EXPERIENCE
- Documented evidence of Continuing Professional Development
- sgnificant demonstrable broad based Haematology practical experience including Blood Transfusion
- Experience of Laboratory Information Systems
- Demonstrable competence and problem solving in automated environment.
- Evidence of supervisory/managerial expertise
- Working alone during out of hours service

- Competent in a broad range of Haematology practical techniques
- Competent in the interpretation and technical validation of results
- Competent in the investigation of abnormal results
- Technical problem solving e.g. equipment failure, quality control failure
- IT competency and problem solving
- Good verbal and written communication skills in English
- Well developed interpersonal skills, able to organise and manage own and others work
- Clear communication of complex information, including technical information, advice and results, to other health professionals
- Communicate within the team to deliver effective service
- Able to respond to changes in workload and solve problems with the minimum of help
