Duties/Responsibilities:
• The purpose of the post is to provide shop floor supervision and patient care in the A&E Department, and to ensure that the patients in A&E are afforded rapid assessment and management. This post will give the successful candidate a unique opportunity to gain experience in acute care from an A&E perspective.
• The Main duties of these posts will involve seeing, diagnosing, and treating A&E patients, referring to other clinicians or general practitioners where appropriate. The successful candidate will be working a rota which will be produced in advance and will include cover for annual leave.
• You will be given time away from clinical duties for CPD, audit preparation and managerial training
• There are teaching sessions aimed at middle grade level every 2 weeks to attend. In addition there are opportunities to attend clinical governance meetings, and daily shop-floor teaching at handover.
• The role encompasses a variety of roles which include seeing patients on a one to one basis, supporting and supervising F2 level trainees and Nurse Practitioners, situational and didactic teaching of juniors, taking part in audit projects, taking an active role in Clinical Governance, developing managerial skills such as the controller role and mentoring junior colleagues.
• This post is ideal for candidates working towards the MCEM and FCEM examinations

Skills/Experience:
• Full GMC registration (or be eligible to obtain full GMC registration within 3 months)
• MBBS (or equivalent)
• Completed Foundation Programme (or equivalent)
• Competence in basic clinic procedures for Emergency Medicine
• ALS/APLS or equivalent Provider
• Other relevant qualifications (ALS, ATLS, NLS, PALS).
• Good history and examination skills.
• Ability to formulate a working diagnosis.
• Able to order appropriate investigations.
• Able to manage common medical emergencies.
• Knows when to appropriately seek assistance from a senior colleague.
• Previous experience in teaching medical students or junior doctors.
• Experience in clinical audit
• Flexible approach to service delivery and committed approach to development.
